| FRASCA Tru-flite 180° VISUAL SIMULATOR
With the installation of the FRASCA Tru-flite simulator in the Loutzavia Flight Training Centre at Wonderboom Airport, a whole new range of training programmes became possible. Not only is the simulator a very useful tool for training instrument flight procedures but it also offers many more options even to VFR pilot training.
The simulator is certificated for use in Instrument Rating renewals and multi-crew training. This has allowed Loutzavia to offer a much wider service to the aviation industry far beyond its original expectations. The simulator can be configured to simulate the Beechcraft Baron 55 or 58 and Piper Archer 161 types.
Loutzavia offers training on the simulator as detailed below.
Private Pilot License 'Overage' Training
– The South African Civil Air Regulations required a PPL training course to include 45 hours of Aircraft training, of which 15 hours is solo training. The national average is around 50 hours and that is 10 hours which are often spent on teaching the student several drills and check lists.
– Simulated engine failures can almost never be taken to conclusion in a real aircraft but using the simulator and its virtual environment it is possible to take the pilot right through to landing the aircraft after an engine failure. In addition, it is considerably cheaper to practice these emergency procedures and at the same time is much safer.
Instrument Rating Training
– Up to 50% of the required instrument flight training hours towards your Night Rating can be done on a simulator
– Up to 50% of the required instrument flight training hours towards your Instrument Rating can be done on the simulator.
– Instrument rating currency and re-currency training can be done on the simulator.
– Every alternate Instrument Rating renewal test may be done on the simulator
Crew and Cockpit Resource Management Training
– This training is geared towards co-operation of crew members in the cockpit especially during emergency situations.
– It is very expensive to train a pilot in the real aircraft whereas the procedures can easily be taught in the simulator.
Training to use Advanced Equipment.
– Advanced training on avionics equipment like the Garmin 430 and the Bendix King autopilot can also be done on the simulator.
